Sanctuary: Shattered Sun ships its July 2026 Steam demo as a Windows-only pre-alpha build. In July 2026, GamingOnLinux published a hands-on note after testing the Sanctuary demo through Valve’s compatibility layer. Their summary: some players could launch the build using Proton 11, but results varied sharply by GPU driver, compositor, and display mode.

The report highlighted one repeatable workaround for a subset of testers:

1. Launch the demo through Steam with Proton 11 forced in game properties
2. Wait for the main menu or first scenario load
3. Press ALT+ENTER to switch to windowed mode
4. Maximize the window manually rather than using exclusive fullscreen

2. Run the system checker and note you are above minimum, not borderline

4. Force Proton 11 (or the version GamingOnLinux cited) in Steam compatibility settings
